10 Surefire Signs You're Addicted to Glamping

1.    You cook all your meals over an open campfire – even when you are in your home in the suburbs. I’m talking fire pit, not BBQ. So much so that your neighbours think your stove must be broken and they bring you over a casserole to help out.

2.    Your RV kitchen is better stocked than your one at home. “Honey, where’s my big spoon?” “It’s in the trailer…” You have spices, condiments and other staples stocked and ready to go. All you bring from trip to trip are perishables.

3.    Everything ends up in the trailer: board games, toys, gadgets. You can’t find anything at home but when camping, everything is within reach.

4.    Your calendar in March and April is marked with the dates you have to call for certain campsites to get the weekends you want. You make sure you are home so you can spend hours on the phone and you cancel plans to make sure that you’re home.

5.    Every member of your family has a separate camping wardrobe, including shoes, pajamas, swim suits and even “formal” wear.

6.    Everyone in your family has their own walking stick, leather water pouch, and Swiss Army knife.

7.    You get a thrill about organizing small spaces with baskets, shelves, dividers and labels.

8.    Your favourite t-shirt says, “I love glamping.”

9.    Your friends understand that they can’t plan a weekend with you from May to September. When they call for plans, they always ask, “Are you glamping that weekend?”

10. When your out-of-town relatives call you on a weekend, the first question they ask is, “Where are you guys glamping this time?” (Notice both friends and family have used the world “glamping.” They know from hearing you talk that it’s not camping, it’s glamour camping).

I can’t stop. Here’s three more.

11. Without thinking, you try to limit the use of your shower and toilet at home because you’re worried you'll have to manually dump the grey and black water. It takes you a few minutes to realize you are back in civilization.

12. The weekends you are home, when you see a truck hitched up to the trailer driving west on the TransCanada highway, you sigh deeply and stare wistfully at it as it fades off into the mountains.

13. At home, you watch how your cupboard doors swing closed to make sure you leveled the house properly.

Ok, just one more…

14. You sleep better in your RV than you do in your bed at home, you dream of being in your RV when you are at home, and you dream of ditching your big house in the city to live full time in your RV in the mountains. If only you had better Wi-Fi out there. :P

Love waking up to these mountains.

The mountains coming out of this cloud looked like Atlantis rising.
